salesmenFrom humble beginnings importing from a few friendly Italian wine producers, Enotria has grown to become the UK’s leading specialist wine supplier, and in 2012 we’re celebrating 40 years in business.

Founded in 1972 by Remo Nardone, Enotria soon established itself as the leading importer of Italian wines, a reputation we still enjoy today. Many of our key Italian producers, including Umani Ronchi, Fattoria dei Barbi and Fontanafredda came on board in those early days, and remain pillars in our portfolio forty years later.

Having established a strong foothold in the Italian restaurant sector, in the 1980s Enotria began to expand its portfolio to include wines from the classic regions of France and Spain, as well as the fledgling New World wine industry.

This growth continued apace in the 1990s with agencies from Chile, South Africa and elsewhere in the Southern Hemisphere joining an ever growing Old World lineup, while in 1999 Enotria began a ground-breaking joint venture with Cantine Settesoli of Sicily. Settesoli is the island’s most important co-operative, with over 6,000 hectares of vineyards and nearly 2,300 member wine growers, and Enotria has global responsibility for sales  and marketing of all Settesoli’s bottled wine production outside the Italian market. The well known Inycon brand is one example of Settesoli's reach and great reputation amongst consumers in the UK.

The early years of the new century saw continued consolidation of Enotria’s reputation for having the highest levels of service in the industry and the addition of a number of high profile new agencies including Yering Station and Mount Langhi Ghiran from Australia.

At the end of 2005 Remo Nardone sold his majority share in Enotria Winecellars to the senior management of the Company backed by ISIS Private Equity. Subsequently the existing management team has been augmented by considerable talent from inside and outside the drinks industry, including Alison Levett (Chief Executive), Fraser McGuire (On Trade Sales Director), Joan Torrents (Director of Buying) and Robert Price (Chief Operating Officer). Under this dynamic team Enotria continues to focus on providing the highest quality wines and highest levels of service to the UK trade.

At the same time, Enotria launched its staff training programme, which is WSET accredited and regarded as one of the wine trade’s most respected. The staff training team continue to innovate and provide industry-leading wine training to a wide variety of our customers.

Online ordering for our trade customers was launched in 2006 and the number of customers benefitting from its ease of access has grown steadily - and we continue to innovate with the launch of this website and mobile web ordering platform in early 2012.

Since then, Enotria has been appointed exclusive UK agent for many great names from all over the world of wine, including Champagne Henriot, Cecchi from Tuscany, Trimbach from Alsace, New Zealand’s Trinity Hill from New Zealand and Champagne Jacquart.  Our range nowadays is as strong in the New World as our historic heartlands of Italy and France.
