It sounds like the combination of trying something different, in the form of Koshu wines from Japan, paired with some of the best Japanese cuisine in London, proved an irresistible double act for the UK wine press and top sommeliers last week. Certainly many of the UK's top palates were there sampling at Umu. Joelle Marti-Baron describes the wines:
"Light in alcohol, ideal with Japanese food, as the flavours aren't overwhelmed; Taste wise, quite a novelty, with very unusual flavours of blossom and rose petals. Some had a light saké note, but my favourites were the very delicate Grace Estate and Diamond Winery. I don't drink beer but I'd be really inclined to have a glass of Koshu wine with Japanese food next time. Funnily enough I compared notes with Matthieu from La Trompette and Anthony Rose, and we all picked the same favourite three wines, although we'd been sitting on 3 separate tables."
