History
Enotria is the one of the UK’s leading national wine importers and distributors with over 35 years experience of supplying both on and off trades.
Founded in 1972 by Remo Nardone, the company quickly established a reputation as the UK’s leading importer of Italian wines, a reputation it still enjoys today. Many of our key Italian producers, including Umani Ronchi, Fattoria dei Barbi and Fontanafredda came on board back in those early days.
In the mid 1980’s Enotria began to expand its portfolio to include wines from the classic regions of France and Spain, as well as the fledgling New World wine industry.
In 1993 Enotria acquired Winecellars Ltd., to become Enotria Winecellars, and forged an ever stronger reputation for Italian wines. Throughout the 1990’s Enotria Winecellars continued to develop a reputation as one of the leading suppliers to the UK on and off trades and augmented its portfolio to include wineries from Chile, USA, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.
Innovation continued throughout the 1990’s with the development of the Arcadia project in the Veneto region of Northern Italy for example and culminated in the signing of a joint venture agreement with Cantine Settesoli in 1999. The terms of this ground-breaking JV gave Enotria responsibility for the global sales and marketing of all Settesoli’s bottled wine production, which has added a valuable international perspective to our business.
The early years of the new century saw continued consolidation of Enotria’s reputation for having the highest levels of service in the industry and the addition of a number of high profile new agencies including Yering Station and Mount Langhi Ghiran from Australia.
At the end of 2005 Remo Nardone sold his majority share in Enotria Winecellars to the Senior Management of the Company and ISIS Private Equity. Subsequently the existing management team has been augmented by the addition of considerable talent from inside and outside the drinks industry, including Alison Levett (Chief Executive) and John Grieveson (Marketing Director). Under the new management team Enotria continues to focus on providing the highest quality wines and highest levels of service to the UK trade.
In 2007 Enotria was appointed UK agent for Champagne Henriot and The Cecchi Family of Wines from Tuscany. 2008 saw Trinity Hill from New Zealand join an ever more stellar line up of New World wines. These exciting new additions underline our commitment to finding and importing the finest wines from around the world, a commitment which will no doubt see more additions to the portfolio in the future.
