Franck Massard

Website : www.epicure-wines.com

Crowned the UK’s best sommelier in 1996, Frenchman Franck Massard is fast forging an even more illustrious reputation as a winemaker, branching out on his own after falling in love with Catalunya – and Priorat in particular – while working for Torres.

Universally, these are wines of character which have a story to tell, sourced from vineyards that often endure extremes of altitude, steep slopes and marginal growing conditions. They include a return for Huellas (‘footprints’), Franck’s much-prized Priorat with which he began his winemaking career.

Distinctive rosado Más Amor (‘more love’) wears its Barcelona heart on its label, which depicts a piece of graffiti from that great city, photographed on Valentine’s Day 2010 and torn down by demolition workers just days later.

Meanwhile, organic Garnacha El Mago (‘the wizard’) is both a tribute to Franck’s children, daughter Maya and son Hugo, and a nod to Hugo’s infatuation with Harry Potter. Massard Jnr even designed the label – not bad for a five-year old!
