Herdade dos Grous
Website : www.herdadedosgrous.comIn the heart of rural Alberano in the Beja district, Herdade de Grous focuses on environmentally responsible viticulture to produce wines of exceptional quality. A haven of biodiversity, the estate’s 536 hectares include 70 dedicated to vine-growing with the other 466 given to agriculture, an olive grove, and the rearing of top cattle breeds and champion jump horses. Though the Mediterranean climate is characterised by low rainfall and a semi-arid growing season, irrigation is not an issue in the heat of the ‘Alentejano’ summer: the estate being blessed with its own 80-hectare dam and a blanket of water-retaining loam soils. A modern yet traditional winery and a touch of French oak complete the picture, helping to produce some extremely impressive regional varietals.
