Austral

Austral, meaning “Southerly” is a tribute to the oenological methods introduced to the area by top French winemakers who had to escape South after their vineyards were decimated by the pest Phyloxerra in the late 19th century. They discovered that the proximity to the Ebro, the ideal clay marl soil and the fine climate would produce exceptional wines. The Austral duo, new to the portfolio this year are modern and fruit forward with good structure and fine tannins.

  1. 2010 Tempranillo Austral Rioja, Principe Viana

Bright garnet red in colour, with purple hues. On the nose there are attractive varietal aromas of red berries, fresh strawberry leaf and some hints of spice. Rounded and soft in the mouth, with a well balanced, medium bodied palate amply stacked with crunchy red berry and hedgerow fruit leading into an elegantly smooth, caressing finish.

  2. 2011 Semi-crianza Austral Rioja, Principe Viana

Bright, cherry red in appearance, the nose is full of intense red and black fruit aromas with just a hint of vanilla. The palate is well-balanced with a rich ripe fruit character and warm finish.
