Marqués de Riscal
Website : www.marquesderiscal.comMarqués de Riscal, the oldest Rioja house, has for many years been a leading company in wine production and vinification techniques, and in 1972 it was the first winery to promote the Rueda Designation of Origin, where it made its famous Marqués de Riscal white wines. Marqués de Riscal exports to over 80 countries and its wines enjoy the highest international distinctions as well as numerous awards and mentions in the media. In the 21st Century, Marqués de Riscal is still writing its history with its “City of Wine”, a project that is a milestone in the way we understand the world of wine.
As pioneers of classic Rioja and Rueda winemaking, Marqués de Riscal continue to prove they are not afraid of innovation. The 150th Anniversary Gran Reserva, from the stunning 2001 vintage, has gained well deserved recognition and two recent on-trade exclusives have bolstered the range further: the Finca Montico is an unoaked white from Rueda, aged for four months on the lees and made from 100% Verdejo grapes from 20-year-old vines in the best vineyard sites. The Viña Collada is a cuvée developed by Marqués de Riscal to offer a good value-for-money Rioja for by-the-glass listings. Last year Marqués de Riscal purchased the historic Marqués de Arienzo property from Pernod Ricard, and we are delighted to be reintroducing the Arienzo Rioja Crianza to our range, after a long absence. This wine is one of the most recognised Riojas in Spain, and is almost ubiquitous in its distribution in the Spanish on-trade. We are also reintroducing the classic Gran Reserva from Marqués de Riscal, which has in the past been a mainstay of their range.
