Trimbach

Trimbach
Website : www.maison-trimbach.com

Unquestionably one of the greatest names in Alsace, the Trimbach family, based in the picturesque town of Ribeauvillé, has been involved in making wine since 1626 and has, over 13 generations, built an enviable reputation for the quality of its entire range. From the Pinot Blanc through to the iconic Clos Sainte Hune Riesling, the wines are considered the benchmark for quality, consistency and style. The essence of Trimbach, with the obvious exception of the luscious VT and SGN wines, is the traditional dry style in which the wines are made.

Many Alsace houses are today making rather clumsy wines with an element of sweetness that detracts from their food matching suitability; not so with Trimbach, whose wines are pure, vibrant and refreshing. It is no accident that the Trimbach wines are listed in every single one of the 26 Three Michelin Star restaurants in France, and are present on the very best restaurant wine lists across the globe.

Deep Gold. On the nose there is an almost Gewurztraminer-like brown spice. The palate is round and broad with apple and plum jam, honey and brown spice. The high acidity is well-disguised by the concentrated baked fruit flavours with a mouth feel that refrains from being cloying. Age is likely to reveal so much more.

One whiff of the Gewurztraminer Vendange Tardive and your sense of smell is instantly pervaded with ham hock, celery root, brown spices, mint and honey. Primary juices include rose petals and spice and a dusty botrytis character to follow. This is a lusciously sweet and complex wine.

The botrytized, apricot and mango-scented wine has bags of elegance. It is medium bodied, beautifully structured and very well-balanced. White peaches are explicitly evident adding complexity to this powerful, delicate and silky smooth wine.

  12. 2005 Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre, Trimbach

Redolent of roses, lychees and spices, this immensely rich Gewurztraminer is so unctuous and viscous when young that it can seem slightly sweet even though it is fermented almost dry. This massive body is balanced by an almost chalky fresh minerality and extract with a result that the wine boasts the elegance and finesse which are the Trimbach trademark.

  13. 2011 Pinot Blanc, Trimbach

    whitewine

    2010 Gewurztraminer, Trimbach

    (6x75cl)

Full, balanced and very aromatic. Depending on the vintage, the principal aromas of Gewurztraminer are lychee, rose, ginger and geranium. The Trimbach Gewurztraminer is dry and shows classic restraint, without any loss of the Gewurztraminer's exotic and spicy feature.

    whitewine

  18. 2007 Pinot Gris Réserve Personnelle, Trimbach

Toasted nuts, marzipan and salinity underscore the peach and apple fruit here. A hint of honey adds nobility and relatively high acidity adds primary juiciness in the long, fascinatingly smoky, nutty, and mineral finish.

  19. 2009 Pinot Gris Réserve, Trimbach

One of the noblest of the Alsace grapes, Pinot Gris produces a full, heady, rich and lush wine in Trimbach’s hands. It is technically dry, but the style is so fruity and full, with such a long palate that the illusion of sweetness is maintained. Watch out too for a smokiness on the finish. Its great depth is balanced by a crisp acidity that gives structure and longevity.

  20. 2007 Gewurztraminer Reserve, Trimbach

With its years of bottle age, this wine has taken on a medium gold colour in the glass and the nose shows complex development as the primary lychee fruit segues into beeswax and camomile. In the palate there are lush lemons and mouthfilling grapiness, tropical fruit and a hint of smoke.

  23. 2011 Pinot Noir Réserve, Trimbach

The wine is light and herby on the palate with vibrant strawberry and cherry flavours.
