Tasting Note:
This outstanding wine has a deep ruby red colour and evolved nose of red fruit and spice. Nuits' has a reputation for slightly aggressive tannins but this is not the case here, with wonderfully rounded ripe berry fruit and soft voluptuous tannins. The palate is rich and well balanced, and the finish is extremely long and elegant.
Vinification Note:
Nuit-St-Georges can be described as a line of Premier crus threaded with clutches of Grand crus. The vineyard lies at an altitude of 250m a.s.l southwest of the town Nuit St Georges. Soils consist of a mixture of silt and scree over marl. Vinification is traditional and no attempt is made to interfere with the harvest. The harvest, carried out entirely by hand, is brought to the winery in small plastic boxes where each bunch undergoes a thorough selection process. Once the grapes are in the tank , maceration lasts approximately 6 days at 10º. Alcoholic fermentation takes place with only natural yeasts. Punching of the cap and pumping over of the must take place during fermentation. After 15 days in tank, both the free-run and press juices are blended and racked before being placed in barrel. Maturation lasts approximately 18 months, at the end of which time the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
