Gewurztraminer, Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre, 2004
Delicious fruit on the nose here. Clean and fresh and youthful. Ripe without being a bit too sweet. A point. Lovely for drinking now

Ageing Potential:
Can be drunk now but will keep very well
Food Matching Note:
This long-lived wine makes a fascinating aperitif but it is also a good accompaniment to foie gras or desserts based on fresh ripe fruit, and a brilliant match for spicy Asian and North African food.
Tasting Note:
Redolent of roses, lychees and spices, this immensely rich Gewurztraminer is so unctuous and viscous when young that it can seem slightly sweet even though it is fermented almost dry. This massive body is balanced by an almost chalky fresh minerality and extract with a result that the wine boasts the elegance and finesse which are the Trimbach trademark.
Vinification Note:
Trimbach is based in the village of Ribeauvillé, which is in the shadow of the mediaeval castle of Ribeaupierre, after which the wine is named. The grapes are harvested at maximum ripeness from selected parcels of old Gewurztraminer vines in calcareous marl soils below the castle, from both the Osterberg and Hunawihr Grands Crus. Only the best vintages are labelled as this cuvée which is aged in large oval oak vats to add complexity before bottling.
