Its deep, velvety and well-balanced flavour lingers on the palate, confirming the long ageing process which combines lavish nature with great technical skill.

    Intense aromas and excellent use of oak. Terrific structure and body with ripe, smooth, black fruit and spices on the palate. Immediately striking due to its richness and extract. Balance between the fruit and the wood is superb.

  6. 2007 Orione Mornasco, IGT Rosso Provincia di Pavia, Cascina Gnocco

    A near-opaque, dense ruby red. An emphatic, incisive nose immediately conveys the wine's distinctive personality. Notes of red fruit (plum and cherry) and black (cassis) predominate, lifted by a smooth impression of spice and crisp hint of black liquorice. On the palate, its lively acidity offers perfect support to a superb structure. A delicious finish offers an intriguing hint of cherry stones.

  7. 2006 El Picon, Pago de los Capellanes

    A deep, dark cherry-coloured with extraordinary intensity and complexity. Blackberries and floral notes are detected first on the nose. The fruit is well-integrated with the wood, displaying spicy aromas from the French oak; cinnamon, leather, tobacco, truffle and black liquorice. Sweet, smooth tannins coat the palate and the mouth is full-bodied and persistant with an array of complex flavours.

    Ruby with purple rim with youthful aromas of morello cherry, raspberry, crushed strawberry and violet. Invigorating freshness and round, silky tannins.

  9. 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Stellenbosch, Thelema

    This wine has a complex nose of mint, blackcurrant and chocolate and the palate is juicy and ripe. There is a good layer of toasty oak in the background to complement the black cherry and cassis fruit flavours and grippy mid-palate tannin. Very long, clean and elegant on the finish.

  10. 2012 Carignano del Sulcis, Grotta Rossa, Santadi

    Mature, gamey nose, almost Pinot in style but the palate is fuller and serious. Delicate violet notes on the nose followed by attractive, violet fruit. Delicately made. Toffee smells on the nose and a pleasant palate with slightly ageing fruit and interesting flavour of mushroom on the finish. Complex, deep and delicious blend of tarry blackcurrant fruit with underlying richness of dried fig.
