  1. 2001 Lourens River Valley Red, Morgenster

Opaque centre with lighter brick red edges, young and vibrant red.Starts out more herbaceous with lavender and thyme in the lead. Cabernet franc much more predominant with some whiffs of coffee. Then comes the cassis, raspberry and perfumey rose petals. Elegant and accessible entry, fullness is a given. A seamlessly put together palate. Beautiful balance of fruit, wood and acidity.

  2. 2013 Alma de Vid Tinto, Bodegas Fernando Castro

The nose is intense, full of black cherry and cassis. A very round, fruity and elegant red, with a prolonged finish.

  3. 2013 La Mora Morellino di Scansano, Cecchi

Morellino has a very intense ruby red colour with noticeable purple flecks and a fruity bouquet which is pleasantly refined and typical of this vine. On the palate it has great structure, fine fruit and good balance with fine but pronounced tannins.

  4. 2011 Cannonau di Sardegna, Picco del Sole

A typical Sardinian red with a deep ruby colour and a palate brimming with ripe fruit and hints of sweet spice. Good acidity, soft tannins and a well-balanced, persistent finish.

  5. 2013 Carignan Vin de France, Le Rouleur

A bright cherry red colour packed with red berry aromas and hint of nutmeg. The palate is full-bodied and fruity.

  6. 2013 Alma de Tinto Mencia, Pazo das Tapias

Mencia is native to this rather rugged part of the world and the wines often have a certain rusticity about them. The Alma de Tinto is bright and brambly with bags of fresh fruit alongside hints of developed, dried fruit nuances.

  7. 2012 Bourgogne Pinot Noir, Domaine Maillard

Pale, ruby red in the glass, this a pure and elegant red wine, displaying classic Pinot Noir aromas of wild strawberries and red currants. Smooth, balanced and very moreish.

  8. 2013 Gamay de Touraine, Domaine de Pierre

Dry, but fruit-forward with supple tannins, red cherries, medium body and bright acidity.

  9. 2013 Merlot, Montagne Noire, Vin de Pays d'Oc, Foncalieu

Deep in colour with intense aromas of ripe berries and pepper. Welcoming red fruits are detected on the palate accompanied by silky tannins: immensely quaffable and very versatile.

  10. 2010 Gevrey Chambertin En Jouise, Domaine Harmand Geoffroy

The nose at present is fairly typical earthy Burgundian Pinot. It's on the palate, however that the wine's class really shows. Superb richness, freshness and juiciness of fruit. Soft-textured, with great persistence of flavour. Yum! Benefits from decanting.
