  1. 2011 Gimblett Gravels Syrah, Trinity Hill

The colour is a deep, vibrant crimson. Blackberry, black pepper, savoury and spice elements are prominent. Multi-layered complexity is the aim. Powerful but ripe and round tannins give the wine great structure. Oak aging plays a minor part and the wine lives on its fruit. Combined with good acidity, mineral, earthy and tarry characters result in a wine that is distinctly Northern Rhone-like rather than resembling any thing Australian.

  2. 2010 La Mascota Malbec, Bodegas Santa Ana

La Mascota Malbec shows an intense purple red colour with ruby hues. Aromas of black fruits, jam and vanilla, with a subtle licorice touch. Sweet and full bodied tannins, with a long and pleasant finish.

  3. 2012 Carignan Vin de France, La Cadence

A bright cherry red colour packed with red berry aromas and hint of nutmeg. The palate is full-bodied and fruity.

  4. 2011 Hawkes Bay Pinot Noir, Trinity Hill

Black fruits, such as plums, blackcurrant and cherry are evident, entwined with wet earth and smoky oak notes. These classic varietal characteristics found on the nose are reaffirmed on the palate. The firm, dry tannins give the wine excellent structure, while the degree of ripeness adds depth, complexity and a silky texture found in few wines. All of which lends itself to a delicious middle palate and long length.

  5. 2012 St. Chinian, Domaine du Barres

This wine displays plenty of ripe mulberry fruit on the nose and palate with soft tannins and a generous finish.

  6. 2010 Zisola Nero d'Avola, Mazzei

Nero by name, nearly opaque by nature, this wine has brooding mulberry fruit on the nose and a palate showing black fruit along with plenty of extract and body. Underlying this depth, there is the trademark Mazzei smoothness and elegance, with a very successful use of oak, giving a rounded, complex whole.

  7. 2008 Sagrantino di Montefalco, Albaruta, Cecchi

Uno has an intense ruby red colour, with the typical purple shades and mauve hints of Sagrantino. It has a subtle aroma, with a sophisticated, complex bouquet, offering a well balanced blend of blackberries, plums, vanilla, leather and coffee. The wine is full bodied with great structure and tannins that make it an ideal partner with food.

  8. 2011 Fontegaia Castelli Romani Rosso, San Marco

A bright ruby, red wine with purple reflections. Fruity and pleasant on the nose with a balanced dry and enjoyable finish.

  9. 2010 Château d'Arsac Cru Bourgeois, Margaux

Intense garnet-red in colour with a toasty, smoky nose, opening up to reveal a generous bouquet of red fruits. Silky and seductive palate, structured but rounded, with a concentrated middle and a flourish of vanilla and blackcurrant on the finish.

  10. 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, Meinert

Dense deep fresh red colour. The nose shows red berries, typical Cabernet herbs, spicy toasty oak and tobacco. Mouth filling and weighty but not clumsy on the palate, finishes crisp and lingering.
