  1. 2011 The Custodian Grenache, d'Arenberg

The 2011 Custodian is a jewel of a wine that is perfectly balanced and harmonious. The first look suggests an enticing simplicity displaying primary fruit characters of mulberry, blueberry and plum. Deeper inspection however starts to reveal more complex layers, conjuring images of aniseed, fennel and coriander seed.
The palate is warm and juicy. The sweet and savoury fruits are laced by fine silken tannins which lead to a super persistent finish, again displaying a delightful fruitiness, accompanied by more savoury, cedary, baking spice like notes. Simply put, this wine is liquid velvet.

  2. 2012 Château du Donjon Grande Tradition

Dark reddish-purple, this Languedoc red breathes ripe, grapey fruit, raspberry fruits, and fragrant black pepper with a lightly herbaceous 'leafy' back note. Full and luscious on the first taste, its juicy black fruit is nicely balanced by tart, crisp acidity, with soft tannins lurking behind the fruit to create a fresh, mouth-watering flavour - great structure. Very luscious on palate. Finishes on ripe intense black fruit finish - delicious!

  3. 2012 Arabesque, Domaine de Montvac,Vacqueyras

Pure, intense yet delicate aromas of redcurrant and licquorice, without oak. Structure very elegant with fine tannins and balanced acidity. Poised and long.

  4. 2011 Châteauneuf du Pape Tradition, Domaine de la Janasse

Deep red-ruby. Fruit-driven aromas of cassis, redcurrant, smoke, spice and animal fur. Soft, lush and ripe, with enticing fruit and good balance. Easy going, generous and balanced for early drinking appeal.

  5. 2014 Maison Saturnin Rouge, IGP Gard, Laudun Chusclan

Dominated by aromatic red fruit on the nose and concentrated red fruit flavours on the palate.

  6. 2012 Côtes du Rhône Cairanne Les Travers, Brusset

A deep garnet colour with youthful purplish hints at the rim. It has a fresh spicy nose with aromas of Christmas cake and mulled wine. On the palate it is concentrated and very elegant with fine spicy concentrated red and black fruits, soft tannins, and real elegance on the finish.

  7. 2013 Côtes du Rhône Rouge, Laudun Chusclan

On the first nose, very present red fruit flavors, after aeration, to notes of fresh eucalyptus. This very flattering set in the mouth is combined with fine and silky tannins. We will retain from this cuvee its delicacy (nice sweetness), its generosity (density and structure) and especially its charm, elegance and finesse.

  8. 2011 The Stump Jump GSM, d'Arenberg

The Shiraz offers dark plum fruits, mulberries and licorice with plenty of concentration, depth and velvety tannin.
The Grenache adds a lovely lusciousness to the wine with raspberry, blueberry and floral notes adding prettiness.
Both of the afore mentioned varieties also give a little white pepper character which has been accentuated in the cooler vintage and really acts as a point of interest.
Finally, the Mourvedre provides a perception of elegance and restraint through its red fruits with a hint of dried herb and fine chalky tannin.

  9. 2008 The Ironstone Pressings GSM, d'Arenberg

On the nose we are struck by the typical dark fruits. Plums, mulberries, fresh soil and more developed peaty like notes are all apparent, with an underlying lick of exotic Indian spice.
An abundance of fresh fruits on the palate marry well with the more complex characters of quince paste, cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise and earthy beetroot. Driving the core of the wine is that vintage trademark in the form of graphite and wet stone. This wine, while appearing open and generous already, will continue to age well thanks to the lively line of acidity and the abundance of fine gritty tannins.
