  1. 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, Stellenbosch, Thelema

    This wine has a complex nose of mint, blackcurrant and chocolate and the palate is juicy and ripe. There is a good layer of toasty oak in the background to complement the black cherry and cassis fruit flavours and grippy mid-palate tannin. Very long, clean and elegant on the finish.

    The wine exhibits a dense, almost opaque colour with deep cherry and tobacco elegance on the nose.
    The palate is up-front with sweet ripe fruit and touches of spice. It has a gorgeous chewy and
    well-endowed plush texture. Pure, complex and interesting.

  3. 2009 The Cenosilicaphobic Cat Sagrantino Cinsault, d'Arenberg

    The nose has a dominant dried herb character and savoury nuances of saltbush, red currant leaf and a hint of black tea.
    Dried herbs also run through the palate from the attack right through to the fruit tannins on the finish. There is wonderful depth with red cherries and layers of rich coffee, dark chocolate and nicely integrated oak. The Cinsault component is harmonious and provides lift, softness, fine minerality and bright acidity. The chalky fruit tannins are prominent and vibrant as typical for Sagrantino.

    Medium ruby. Aromas of black cherry, currant and liquorice. Lush but bright in the mouth, with noteworthy depth of flavour and restrained sweetness. Finishes with ripe, dusty tannins and excellent persistence.

  5. 2012 Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC, Bricco San Giacomo, Ascheri

    Ruby red colour with garnet reflections. Full bodied bouquet, with a delicate violet scent. Dry on the palate, yet velvety, harmonious and very persistent at the same time. Very well balanced, with distinct class and style.

  6. 2009 The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon, d'Arenberg

    The nose exhibits classic Cabernet aromatics of black currant leaf, violets and cigar box with an interesting twist of cooking spice and mustard seed.
    These lovely savoury notes are followed through onto the palate but swept along by an underlying sweet blackcurrant and mulberry fruitiness that builds as the wine continues to evolve in your glass.
    The initially cedary tannins, start early and give the wine an incredible line.
    An intriguing fennel note accompanies the chalky tannins that are picked up on the finish, which is long and lingering.

    The centuries-old relationship between the Cecchi family and Castellina in Chianti is the origin of Villa Cerna Chianti Classico. This fresh, modern style of Chianti has a vivid ruby colour that leads to an intensely floral bouquet of violet and iris over plum, cherry and spice. Silky tannins give a smooth mouth feel to the rich, perfumed flavours of dark cherry and dried flowers, while the mouthwatering acidity lends a refreshing quality to the stylish, dark fruit.

    Intense aromas and excellent use of oak. Terrific structure and body with ripe, smooth, black fruit and spices on the palate. Immediately striking due to its richness and extract. Balance between the fruit and the wood is superb.

  9. 2013 Ebano 6 Tempranillo, Ribera Del Duero

    Intense, almost opaque ruby core with a purple rim on first release, this powerful young wine shows a highly fruity nose of ripe blackberries, ripe plums and strawberries. The mineral notes of the terroir, and a hint of fresh greenness work wonderfully as a foil to the exuberant fruit. On the palate there is a medium to full bodied mouthfeel with powerful structure given by warm, ripe tannins.

  10. 2012 Pommard 1er Cru Les Fremiers, Domaine Lucien Boillot

    Succulent berry fruit and slight vegetal flavours gives way to silky soft tannins and excellent depth and concentration.
