  1. 2006 Vintage Fortified Shiraz, d'Arenberg

The wine opens to lush aromas of fruitcake, spice and plum pudding, topped off with melted butter and brandy snaps on the side. Its a rich and heady mix, embracing and warming, just waiting for the chill of night and an open fire. The fine, low-strength brandy spirit plays a wonderful supporting role - selected for its 'tails' character, all juniper berries, spice and fruit and 'hearts' - roses and apricots and brings warmth and richness to the wine. The palate is dense and layered, the tannins chewy and mouthfilling interwoven with rich, ripe dark fruits - figs, plums, star anise, licorice, cloves and candied citrus peel. There's line and length from the acid and tannin backbone, leaving the finish long, clean and fresh. This wine will build further complexing characters as it ages and will reward extended cellaring.

    2014 Rosé, Stormy Cape

    (6x75cl)

Stormy Cape sources grapes from the best vineyards from South Africa’s famed Western Cape. Made from 100% Shiraz, this is an easy-drinking Rosé bursting with ripe summer fruits, and has a juicy, natural sweetness balanced by a refreshing edge.

  3. 2011 The Wild Pixie Shiraz, d'Arenberg

Do not be mislead by the name, this wine is far from Pixie-ish. On the contrary it is a dark, concentrated and structured beast that needs more than one look to understand its true value. Initially it appears savoury and spicy with a whiff of funkiness (perhaps "wild" is somewhat appropriate), think fennel, black olive, bitter chocolate and earth. Given a moment to relax in the glass, we are struck by the nuances of sweeter fruit, plums, blackberries and mulberries that build. Layer upon layer of flavour carried along by a wave of mouth watering tannin that draws you in for another look.

  4. 2007 Vintage Fortified Shiraz, d'Arenberg

The nose starts with fine tobacco and dark chocolate mixed with dark fruits and lifted violets. The fine, low-strength brandy spirit plays a wonderful supporting role - selected for its 'tails' character, all juniper berries, spice and fruit and 'hearts' - roses and apricots and brings warmth and richness to the wine. The palate is fine and focussed due to the dry vintage conditions, dark plums, figs and nuts mingle with sandlewood and exotic spices. The tannins are chewy yet fine and there's a linear backbone of acidity to keep it all in check. The finish is long and layered, indicating a long life ahead for those with the patience to give this wine time in their cellar.

  5. 2010 Anaperenna Shiraz Cabernet, Glaetzer

Enticing liquorice and fragrant herb notes on the nose, revealing hints of dark stone fruits and cassis with layers of roasted coffee beans. The key characteristic on the palate is the textural tannins that provide support for the supple yet restrained palate - finishing with freshness, purity and length.

  6. 2010 The Dead Arm Shiraz, d'Arenberg

Dark fruit and savoury characters leap from the glass, in particular there is liquorice and blackberry, laced with a hint of char. Complexity in the shape of iodine and soil like notes follow. The wine is powerful and structured. There is a plethora of sweet fruit character, plums and mulberries, but not a hint of fatness. Rather the wine is quite compact and focused.
A powerful yet refined expression of Shiraz with balance, complexity and persistence.

  7. 2011 'The Renegade' Shiraz-Grenache, Ken Forrester Wines

This elegant blend (our 10th vintage) displays Old World Style with New World fruit. Hint of Grenache's earthy rustic charm and Shiraz's noble spice with hints of nutmeg and salty black olive on the finish. Balanced with soft integrated tannins.

  8. 2012 Henry's Seven SGV, Henschke

Aromas of red and blue fruits, ripe plums, morello cherries, and notes of exotic florals and stone-fruits. Rich, lush and juicy wild berry and satsuma plum flavours, with a hint of anise and kirsch. The texture is juicy and lush with layers of velvety tannins and great length.

  9. 2012 Director's Cut Shiraz, Heartland

The 2012 Directors' Cut Shiraz is a deep ruby in colour, with splashes of violet. The nose displays beautifully articulated dark fruits, cherries and cassis with hints of spice box and anise. Seductively rich on the palate, flavours of dark chocolate and plums integrate with supple, focused tannin and and impressive length.

  10. 2011 The Navigator, Strandveld

Aromas of cool-climate spice with white pepper and cloves. The spiciness carries through to the palate and is complemented by black berry flavours, with floral hints courtesy of the Viognier. The Grenache contributes dried-peach tannins. The wine has an ageing potential of 5 – 10 years.
