    The Sangiovese in this vintage was generous and of outstanding quality, first as grapes and then as juice, bestowing its Chianti-zone violet and earthy aromas, while at the same time displaying the highest elegance and persistence. This was complemented by the lush fruit of the Merlot, the smoke of the Petit Verdot, and the vibrancy of the Cabernet Sauvignon. There is beautiful choreography in the balance between the velvety tannins and alcohol in this new vintage.

    The palate is up-front with sweet ripe fruit and touches of spice. It has a gorgeous chewy and
    well-endowed plush texture. Pure, complex and interesting.

    Bright red. Dark berries and cherry on the nose, with complex garrigue, licquorice and olive nuances. Fleshy, pure red and dark berry flavours are complimented by layers of mouthfilling, ripe tannins. Gorgeous sweet fruit on the finish. Overall, a very balanced and elegant prestige blend, without overextraction or excessive alcohol levels.

  5. 2010 Châteauneuf du Pape Rouge, Domaine La Roquète, Brunier

    Deep ruby/purple color and a sweet nose of ripe Grenache along with raspberries, cherries, licquorice, and pepper. On the palate it is both powerful and elegant, with zesty acidity and morderately high tannin. An attractive wine that can be drunk early on or cellared for 12-15 years.

    Succulent berry fruit and slight vegetal flavours gives way to silky soft tannins and excellent depth and concentration.

    Fairly deep red with a pale rim. Very sweet ripeness on the nose, possibly red gooseberry jam and a
    hint of green pepper. Ripe fruit on palate with soft texture.

    Candied fruit and spice on the nose, fine sweet tannins, generous body with currants and prunes with a fine, smooth finish and no oak.

  10. 2009 The Cenosilicaphobic Cat Sagrantino Cinsault, d'Arenberg

    The nose has a dominant dried herb character and savoury nuances of saltbush, red currant leaf and a hint of black tea.
    Dried herbs also run through the palate from the attack right through to the fruit tannins on the finish. There is wonderful depth with red cherries and layers of rich coffee, dark chocolate and nicely integrated oak. The Cinsault component is harmonious and provides lift, softness, fine minerality and bright acidity. The chalky fruit tannins are prominent and vibrant as typical for Sagrantino.
