    Mature, gamey nose, almost Pinot in style but the palate is fuller and serious. Delicate violet notes on the nose followed by attractive, violet fruit. Delicately made. Toffee smells on the nose and a pleasant palate with slightly ageing fruit and interesting flavour of mushroom on the finish. Complex, deep and delicious blend of tarry blackcurrant fruit with underlying richness of dried fig.

  6. 2012 Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba DOC, La Lepre, Fontanafredda

    Deep ruby-red with very marked violet hue. The fine, fruity bouquet is very persistent with clear-cut overtones of plums and cherries. The palate is pleasantly dry, and its strong almondy after taste brings out its fullness and velvety stuffing with slight tannins, making for a highly agreeable, fine balance.

    Deep garnet in colour with a subtle nose of red berry fruit. Soft and elegant on the palate with fine ripe tannin and a complex finish.

    The nose is full of vibrant fresh fruit including plum, raspberry, currant and cranberry with varietal spice and a lovely violet overtone providing a delicate touch.
    The elegant palate adds rhubarb to the fruit spectrum with a very attractive pink musk nuance emerging on the mid palate with a second layer of earth and dried herbs providing a savoury kick.
    The lively acidity is linear and focused and a real feature. The tannins have good weight and build through the palate with a handsome presence on the long finish.

  9. 2009 The Cenosilicaphobic Cat Sagrantino Cinsault, d'Arenberg

    The nose has a dominant dried herb character and savoury nuances of saltbush, red currant leaf and a hint of black tea.
    Dried herbs also run through the palate from the attack right through to the fruit tannins on the finish. There is wonderful depth with red cherries and layers of rich coffee, dark chocolate and nicely integrated oak. The Cinsault component is harmonious and provides lift, softness, fine minerality and bright acidity. The chalky fruit tannins are prominent and vibrant as typical for Sagrantino.

  10. 2011 Cirò Classico Riserva, Duca San Felice, Librandi

    Beautiful ruby red colour with an evident orange edge to it, and a rich bouquet of spice and liquorice with a hint of tar. Medium bodied and well defined, expressing black fruit flavours alongside well integrated tannin and a dry finish.
