  1. 2004 Amarone Classico DOC, Bertani

A deep garnet red colour witnesses the long barrel ageing. The first impression on the nose is of fresh black cherry aromas, leading into notes of maraschino cherry and plum. Immense depth and complexity on the palate: dried fruit, oolong tea, liquorice, spice, red-berry fruits, and a long velvety vanilla note on the finish. However, the key to this wine has got to be the sweetness level. It is genuinely dry, unlike many modern-style competitors.

  2. 2008 Barolo DOCG, Fontanafredda

Classic dark 'tar' and perfumed 'roses' on the nose, light in colour but with great power, concentration and well balanced ripe tannins. This is a wine to match with rich foods and game dishes.

  3. 2011 Cabernet, Painter Bridge

Deep purple in colour with fragrant aromas of red and black cherries and blackcurrants. The palate is medium bodied with a good concentration of blackberry and cassis fruit flavours. Finishes soft, round and juicy.

  4. 2009 Carmenere Syrah Reserva, Vina Falernia

Bright and deep in colour. This wine shows rich fruit concentration; on the nose black pepper, red fruit, dark chocolate. Great body with soft tannins on the palate.

  5. 2009 Barolo DOCG Sorano, Ascheri

A garnet red colour. Ethereal bouquet, intense tar with a scent of dried flowers and a mineral note. A rich palate, balance and mature tannins contribute to its harmoney, distinction and intensity. A remarkably classy wine, with exceptional richness and tipicity.

  6. 2009 Sassicaia, Tenuta San Guido

Intense ruby, complex bouquet with highly elegant red fruits. Powerful and concentrated on the palate with sweet balanced tannins and a very long, fine, finish. This will age very well.

  7. 2008 Basket Pressed Shiraz, Skillogalee

This Shiraz is another dark, rich wine in the Skillogalee tradition, with intense colour and powerful, warm aromas and flavours. On the nose and the palate there are berryfruit and plum characters and hints of eucalyptus or mint can sometimes be found. Tannin structure is fine but firm and there is a good level of natural acidity.

  8. 2011 Châteauneuf Reserve des Oliviers, Maison Favier

The grenache character predominates on the nose with plenty of raspberry fruit. A succulent attack is balanced by fine tannins and good acidity. The finish is marked by spice and blackcurrant.

  9. 2011 Beaujolais Villages, Louis Tête

Light purple in colour, with a elegant, fresh intense nose of soft red fruits. The palate is equally open and fleshy with lots of fruit and little tannin. Wonderfully soft and accessible, plenty of character backed by good balancing acidity.

  10. 2010 Johann's Garden GMS, Henschke

Bright crimson in colour. Sweet ripe lifted spicy aromas of cherry plum, raspberry, rhubarb and anise. Hints of spicy nutmeg, clove and mace with smoky cedar nuances. The palate is rich and full with supple layered fleshy texture and ripe sweet plum/prune flavours; concentrated and complex with layers of velvety tannins, good balance, weight and length.
