  1. NV Lot 29 XO, Cognac Tesseron

Described by F Paul Pacult as: "Bronze/copper/topaz color; ideal purity... nut paste/oak scent..; with further air exposure, the bouquet takes on an orangy/citrusy leaning as the smell turns fruitier the more it aerates; lovely and compelling. The palate entry is supple, fruity sweet, and ripe; the midpalate stage highlights melded flavors of light caramel, marzipan, and nougat. Ends up oaky sweet, lightly spiced, and satiny. Like this cognac very much." Or Malcolm Gluck "This liquid can represent the planet in the cognac, armagnac and malt whisky class. It has the qualities of an elixir."

  2. 2010 Barolo DOCG, Fontanafredda

Classic dark 'tar' and perfumed 'roses' on the nose, light in colour but with great power, concentration and well balanced ripe tannins. This is a wine to match with rich foods and game dishes.

  3. 2007 Vintage Fortified Shiraz, d'Arenberg

The nose starts with fine tobacco and dark chocolate mixed with dark fruits and lifted violets. The fine, low-strength brandy spirit plays a wonderful supporting role - selected for its 'tails' character, all juniper berries, spice and fruit and 'hearts' - roses and apricots and brings warmth and richness to the wine. The palate is fine and focussed due to the dry vintage conditions, dark plums, figs and nuts mingle with sandlewood and exotic spices. The tannins are chewy yet fine and there's a linear backbone of acidity to keep it all in check. The finish is long and layered, indicating a long life ahead for those with the patience to give this wine time in their cellar.

  4. 2013 Chardonnay Les Mougeottes IGP Pays d'Oc

Lemon and vanilla on the nose with a round, fruity body and a hint of vanilla oak character. Has more ripeness than a Macon and more savouriness than the New World, making it ideal by the glass.

  5. 1989 Vouvray Moelleux, Sylvain Gaudron

Age has conferred an incredible creaminess to this wine. Toffee on the palate, not too sweet, beautiful vein of acidity. Finish lasts for ten minutes.

  6. 2013 La Barry White, Sauvignon Blanc, Martin Meinert

Delicate floral fruit with underlying grassier tones. As it ages, mineral and flinty flavours come to the fore, so don’t drink all of it too young!

  7. 2013 Malbec Rosé, Bodegas Santa Ana

Bright cherry in colour with hints of orange around the edges, the nose is fresh, aromatic and enticing. On the palate the wine is fruit driven and crisp with a dry finish.

  8. NV Saumur Brut, Domaine de Brizé

A really superb sparkling Loire, dry but not aggressive, produced from Chenin Blanc in the small village of Martigne-Briand, close to the town of Saumur. The wine has a beautifully fragrant English late summer fruits bouquet (apples and pears) and is clean, fresh and lively on the palate, a great alternative to Champagne.

  9. 2013 Íntimo Tinto, Humberto Canale Patagonia

Intense ruby colour. Complex and elegant nose, with red berries and notes of vanilla and tobacco. In the mouth the wine is medium-full bodied with ripe dark fruit flavours and a hint of oaky spice.

  10. 2010 Pommard 1er Cru Les Bertins, Dom. Chantal Lescure

A very opulent and stylish Pommard with concentrated black cherry fruit and toasted spices.
